The brief

Train 11 people to Green Belt together, with one plan, one set of dates and one point of contact.

What they booked

Lean Six Sigma Green Belt for all 11, with the Yellow and Green Belt exams included.

Our advice: Training a team together gives everyone the same method and language for projects, and one group booking is far simpler to manage than 11 separate ones.

The question they asked

Will our people actually be Green Belt certified after the course, or does certification take years of project work? The training lead needed a clear answer to give participants and managers.

What they booked

Lean Six Sigma Green Belt for their team, once the answer was clear: the course ends with the Green Belt exam, and passing it earns the certificate.

Our advice: Some employers also ask for completed improvement projects over time. That is a separate, later step, so tell people up front what the course itself gives them.

Lean Six Sigma training for its technical teams, matched to what each team needed.

Lean Six Sigma training courses

The two belts most people start with

Lean Six Sigma Green Belt

The most popular belt: for managers, analysts and team leaders who will lead improvement projects.

5 days Yellow and Green Belt exams Next start 9 Nov

Green Belt teaches you to run a complete DMAIC project: define a problem, measure the process, find the root causes with data, make changes and keep the gains. Green Belts usually lead projects in their own team alongside their day job, and support larger projects led by Black Belts. You do not need a Yellow Belt first. There are no formal prerequisites, and the course includes both the Yellow and Green Belt exams.

What you learn

  • Measuring a process and collecting data you can trust
  • Root cause analysis and the core statistics behind it
  • Control charts and plans that keep the gains in place

Included

  • 5 days of training with an experienced trainer
  • Delegate pack with courseware
  • Yellow and Green Belt exams

Lean Six Sigma Black Belt

For people who will lead larger, cross-team improvement projects and coach Green Belts.

10 days Exam and certificate Next start 9 Nov

Black Belt goes deeper into the statistics, including regression and design of experiments, and teaches you to lead change and manage stakeholders across the business. Black Belts often work on improvement full time, help choose which projects the organisation runs and report the results to senior leaders. Already a Green Belt? The 5-day Black Belt Upgrade covers the extra Black Belt content without repeating what you know.

What you learn

  • Advanced statistics, regression and design of experiments
  • Leading change and managing stakeholders
  • Coaching Green Belts through their projects

Included

  • 10 days of training with an experienced trainer
  • Delegate pack with courseware
  • Exam and certificate

Why it matters

What is Lean Six Sigma and how can it benefit my career or organisation?

Lean Six Sigma: a short description

Lean Six Sigma is a proven, data-driven way to improve how work gets done. Lean removes waste so processes run faster; Six Sigma reduces variation so they make fewer mistakes. For you, it is a recognised qualification and a toolkit for solving problems. For your organisation, it means lower costs, shorter lead times and happier customers.

It works in any sector with a process to improve: manufacturing, the NHS, finance, logistics, the public sector and services. People use it to cut errors, waiting and rework, and to show the results in numbers.

How Lean Six Sigma benefits your career and salary

Green and Black Belts move into continuous improvement, operational excellence, quality and project roles. A belt shows employers you can lead change with data, and Black Belt roles are usually paid more than Green Belt roles. Pay depends on sector and region, so see our salary guide.

How it benefits your organisation

Trained people find and fix the causes of errors, delays and rework. Each project is chosen for a business result and measured, so you can compare the savings with the cost of training.

Is Lean Six Sigma worth it in 2026?

Yes, for most people who work on processes, and it is still worth it because every organisation needs people who can fix problems with data. It pays off fastest when you use it on a real project soon after the course. If you won't, start smaller with Yellow Belt or a one-day Lean course.

Six Sigma explained

What is Six Sigma?

Six Sigma is a data-driven method for improving quality by reducing variation and defects in a process. Sigma (σ) is the statistical measure of variation, and a process running at six sigma produces no more than 3.4 defects per million opportunities.

Six Sigma meaning and definition in numbers

σstandard deviation: how much results vary
3.4defects per million opportunities at six sigma
99.99966%of outcomes defect-free

On the course: you measure how a real process performs and find what is causing its defects.

Lean and Six Sigma: how do they work together?

Lean and Six Sigma are two improvement methods that are usually used together as Lean Six Sigma. Lean makes a process faster by removing waste; Six Sigma makes it more reliable by reducing variation. Combined, they fix both slow and error-prone work with one shared method and one set of belts.

Lean versus Six Sigma: what is the difference, and is one better?

Lean

Speed and flow. Removes the 8 wastes.

Tools: value stream mapping, 5S, Kaizen, Kanban

Six Sigma

Quality and consistency. Reduces variation and defects.

Tools: DMAIC, statistics, control charts

Lean Six Sigma

Both, in one method and one set of belts.

Yellow, Green, Black and Master Black Belt

On the course: you learn to spot the 8 wastes in your own work and plan how to remove them.

Six Sigma methods: DMAIC and the 5 stages

The main Six Sigma method is DMAIC, five stages used to improve an existing process: Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve and Control. For designing a new process or product, teams use DMADV (Define, Measure, Analyse, Design, Verify), also called Design for Six Sigma.

What does Define mean in Six Sigma?

Define is the first stage: the team agrees the problem, the scope and a measurable goal before any work starts. Click a stage to see what happens in each.

Stage 1: Define

Agree the problem, the goal and the scope.

Write the problem down in numbers, who it affects and what “fixed” looks like, so the team and the sponsor agree on the target before any work starts.

You finish with: A clear problem statement and a target everyone has signed up to.

Tools you use

  • Project charter
  • SIPOC
  • Voice of the customer
  • Cost-benefit analysis

That is the overview. The course is where it clicks.

Your trainer takes you through every stage and tool with practice exercises, course materials and the exam, so you can use it on real work straight away.

FAQs

Questions before you book

Booking for yourself or a whole team? These are the questions people ask us most.

Which Lean Six Sigma belt is right for me or my team?

Start with what people will do after the course. Yellow Belt suits anyone who supports improvement projects, Green Belt is for people who will lead projects in their own area, and Black Belt is for those who lead larger, cross-team projects and coach others. Most organisations mix levels, and we can recommend the right mix for your team.

Can you train our whole team at our workplace?

Yes. We train teams at your offices or a venue of your choice, or live online when your people work across different sites. The examples and projects are tailored to your industry, and every delegate gets their own learner portal, exam and certificate.

How much does Lean Six Sigma training cost?

The price depends on the belt, the format and how many people you are training. Every belt course includes the exam. Ask us for a quote: we regularly offer up to 40% off, and a team gets one proposal for the whole group.

Can my employer pay, and do you invoice?

Yes. 72% of our delegates are sent by their employer. Organisations can book with a booking form and pay by invoice, and we can send a quote first for your approval process.

Is the exam included, and will I be certified?

Yes. Every belt course includes the exam, and passing it earns your certificate. Green Belt includes both the Yellow and Green Belt exams. Some employers also ask for completed improvement projects over time; that is a separate step you can work towards after the course.

How long does it take to get Lean Six Sigma certified?

Yellow Belt training takes 2 days, Green Belt 5 days, Black Belt 10 days and Master Black Belt 15 days. The exam is included on every belt course. Self-paced online courses give you 90 days to study at your own pace.

What is the fastest way to get Six Sigma certified?

Yellow Belt is the fastest route: 2 days with the exam included. If you need to lead projects, go straight to Green Belt (5 days). It has no formal prerequisites and includes both the Yellow and Green Belt exams.

Do I need any experience before Green Belt?

No. There are no formal prerequisites for Green Belt, so you do not need a Yellow Belt first. The course starts with the basics and includes the Yellow Belt exam.

What happens after I book a Lean Six Sigma course?

You get an order confirmation email straight away, then a second email to activate your learner portal. Your joining instructions and course materials follow before the course. Afterwards you request your exam in the portal, and your certificates are ready to download within 72 hours.

How do I join a live online course?

Live online courses run on Zoom. Your joining instructions and Zoom link arrive by email before the course, the link also shows in your learner portal, and it is sent again the Friday before as a backup. Set up a free Zoom account before day one; a webcam is optional.

How do I take the Lean Six Sigma exam?

After the course, request your exam in your learner portal within 30 days. Requests are answered the same day, and you then have 14 days to sit it online in the portal. It is a multiple-choice paper, and you get your result as soon as you finish.

When will I get my certificate?

Usually within 72 hours of your course ending or of passing your exam. Log in to your learner portal, open Booked courses, then Details, and download your completion and exam certificates.

Can I learn Lean Six Sigma on my own?

Yes. Our self-paced online courses give you 90 days to work through the material when it suits you. If you would rather have a trainer guide you, choose live online or classroom training.

Is Lean Six Sigma hard to learn or difficult to pass?

Yellow Belt is designed for beginners and needs no statistics background. Green and Black Belt include more statistics, but the course builds up to it step by step and your trainer prepares you for the exam.

Is Lean Six Sigma certification worth it in 2026?

Yes, if you will use it. A belt gives you a structured way to solve problems with data and a certificate that employers in manufacturing, healthcare, finance, logistics and the public sector recognise. It pays off fastest when you apply it to a real project at work soon after the course.

Why pay for training when free courses exist?

Free introductions can explain the ideas, but they rarely include a trainer, an exam or a certificate employers recognise. Our courses give you all three, plus course materials and support through your learner portal. We regularly offer up to 40% off, so ask for a quote.
