Six sigma black belt weekend

Six Sigma Black Belt (Weekend) Training Course Overview

Six Sigma black belt weekend has been created for individuals who are capable of explaining the principles and ideas behind the Six Sigma certification. Professionals can assign team members roles that suit their ability, show team leadership and recognise team dynamics. In addition, six sigma experts should have a good understanding of sections of the DMAIC model.

This black belt course combines all the six sigma’s which are, green, yellow and black so once the course is complete, you will be qualified with the highest level of the six sigma courses.

The course does not require you to have any experience with six sigma, as the green belt course contains the foundations of the six sigma methodologies. This course doesn’t have any formal entry requirements but you are expected to do some pre-course reading. Once you have purchased the course, you will be provided with pre-course guides, which usually take 30 hours to complete.

About Six Sigma

Six sigma dates back to the 1980s where Motorola who is a mobile manufacturer company decided that there is no current framework used to check for quality in a project. The main function of the project management technique is to gather and examine data from a project, this assists members of the team to see where flaws are occurring and how they should reduce them.

Case Study

General Electric implemented Six Sigma in the 1990s and is probably the most famous case study of Six Sigma use.

The owner of General Electric, Jack Welch, needed to change his company’s strategies, so in 1995 he noticed the success of Six Sigma in a friend’s company, Allied Signal, and decided to give it a go for himself.

He performed some analysis and discovered that General Electric was running at three or four sigma, and by raising it to six sigma, the company could save somewhere between $7 billion to $10 billion.

The Six Sigma program was implemented in 1996 with a goal in mind of taking just five years, whereas other companies would take about ten years to fully take control.

Six Sigma could only fully benefit General Electric if it could fully permeate company processes and culture on the manufacturing perspectives but also how much value it delivers to customers. The most employee attended Six Sigma training. Some of these were promoted to Black Belt who was able to train Green Belts who could then form Six Sigma teams, able to carry out projects within the organisation.

Six Sigma was heavily supported by the executives of the company, who would review and work on projects in quarterly meetings. Executives who were most successful were given stock options so employees could witness how their work was celebrated. This made engaging with employees far easier.

In the first two years, General Electric’s revenues rose by 11% and their earnings by 13% and after the first five years, they saved around $12 billion through using Six Sigma. To this day, Six Sigma is still a part of GE’s business model as well as many other Fortune 500 companies
