Kingston upon Hull

Kingston upon Hull is a port city and unitary authority in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It is situated at the confluence of the Humber Estuary on the Hull River, 25 miles (40 km) inland from the North Sea, 50 miles (80 km) east of Leeds, 34 miles (55 km) south-east of York and 54 miles (87 km) north-east of Sheffield. Hull is the fourth largest city in Yorkshire and the Humber, with a population of 260,645 (mid-2018 est.).

Economy

Hull's economy was built on shipping and trade, first whaling, and later sea-fishing. The city's business relies on the chemical and healthcare sectors. Many well-known British companies have facilities in Hull, including BP, Smith & Nephew and Reckitt Benckiser.

Education

Hull has over 100 local schools, of which the Hull City Council funds 71 primary schools and 14 secondary school. Malet Lambert School is the most achievable state school in Hull, and schools independent of the City Council include Hymers College and Hull Collegiate School.
